People care more about what you’re saying then how you say it. They connect with you first as a person and then towards what you’re talking about. A person decides from your tone if they would like to talk to you further or not.
To connect personally, introduce yourself before beginning your pitch.
And I’ve found a good strategy is to talk as little as possible to connect with your prospect, and then simply offer to email them more information.
